USING ELECTRONIC BOOK IN SCHOOLS

 

What is your choice tablet or book? There will always be an argument whether electronic book is useful for students or not. This argument will not end because some people think of bad features of the electronic book while some people think of good feature of using the electronic book. We are in the technology era. As our social life and daily life are affected by technological developments, our education system is affected by technological developments. As we have seen, we started to use electronic books last year in schools. There are three major benefits of using electronic book in schools: it is a useful device for permanent and easy learning, it is very functional device, and it is a portable device.

The first benefit of using the tablet is that it provides students permanent and easy learning. While we are using book, we are also taking notes at some important points and we miss some points, so we cannot understand what the teacher tells us. For example, our teacher has a slide. We do not have to take notes as we can take it in a digital format with the tablet. It is so useful device for students who are tired of writing and typing during lectures and presentations. Because tablet provides us the opportunity of recording lecture and with these records, we can review our lesson at home at any time. It is not only a book but also a notebook. We can take notes by using pen and paper in tablets, circle, highlights, and underline especially important points. Another point is that it is proven that 60 percent of students learn best and easily with visual-spatial presentations. It is a high rate. Tablets offer students the opportunity of using a lot of materials like graphs, charts, images, and videos. As a result, tablets offer students much more materials to provide an effective learning.

The second benefit of using the tablet is that it is very functional device. We can take record our lectures, we can form our own videos related to our lessons with it. These functions contribute our learning on a large scale. Tablet not only contributes our learning but also provide communicating with people since it is designed to contact with the internet. We can easily connect to the social media sites, talk with our family and friends, research any subject, and read or watch the latest news. Tablet provides students to access the information easily and fast. Thanks to its internet connection, students can make search in any subject for their lesson and look up in any word which they do not know or they wonder. Tablets have a large memory and we can store a lot of information on a tablet. We can store movies and novels inside it, so we can read novel or we can watch movie whenever we want.

The third benefit of using the tablet is that it is a portable device. We can bring it where we go, so we can study lesson where we are in a classroom, at the library, at home, or at bus station. This feature of tablet makes it the more preferred product and makes it more common in society. Before tablet, students are carrying the heavy bags and they are very tired. Tablet has all lesson sources inside it. As it is a portable tool, it provides learning easily whenever we want and wherever we are. For example, while we are travelling, we can study lesson, listen videos from it, or read a book easily and comfortably not like a book. It is also comfortable to use everywhere. We can use it with one hand easily. That it is a portable device makes longer the learning process, so it should be used in schools.

To sum up, as we have seen, we can learn information from books by reading, taking notes, or seeing from pictures but tablet offers us a lot of ways to learn. We can learn from tablets writing, reading, watching, listening and tablets support the learning with materials such as graphs and charts. So, tablets called electronic books should be used in schools as they make our learning more permanent and easy, they have a lot of functions, and they are used and taken anywhere and anytime easily.

SHOULD THE TUITION BE FREE IN UNIVERSITY EDUCATION?

Education is one of the most important factors not only for countries’ development but also people’s development as the purpose of education is to provide both countries’ needs and requirements and people’s needs and requirements. These days, it has been an argument among people that while people find money to give courses, why do not they find money to give their tuition? It is an incorrect thought and university education should be tuition free since it is an obstacle for some people to go to university, it is against to the equality of opportunity in education, and it reduces the time students distinguish to the education and themselves in some ways.

The tuition is an obstacle in front of both students and families. Some people do not go to the university because of their financial situation and some factors like tuition, eating and sheltering expenses lead to some people not to go to the university. Somehow people provide their sheltering and eating expenses but tuition is really a big problem for students. When we compare with other countries, our education level is so low and it is not correct for our country to receive money for education. Because the development of one country economically and socially becomes with education. Our economy needs to educated people and there are no enough educated people. People who do not go to university generally have a limited social life. As education provides people’s development and countries’ development in all respects, it should not be an obstacle in front of them.

The tuition is against to the equality of opportunity in education. Students pay different amount of money according to which department they are studying. While going anyone to the university is an asset both for individuals and for society as a whole, it is wrong to be paid money to the government for education as it is useful for government future. The tuition which students pay does not provide the training costs of government and it only creates financial problems for students. While tuition is even low, students and families have difficulties to pay it. While students have troubles to pay, raising the tuition is not correct. While students are struggling with intensive lesson tempo, they are thinking about tuition on the top of it. This makes their level of success lower and it also makes the society’s level of success lower. For the survival of society, it is necessary for individuals to make an effort. While individuals make an effort for society, the government should support them instead of receiving money for education. So, university education should be tuition free.

It decreases student’s time which was dedicated to the education and themselves in some ways. Some students are working to pay the tuition. As a result of work, they do not find time to study or they are being tired. So, they fail in their exams. They have much more responsibilities than other students who do not work. They have to go to the school, they have to work, and they have to study lesson. They have a routine life between work and school. Because of work, they do not concentrate on their lessons and it creates problems with their lessons. So they fail in their exams. As a result, the level of success decreases and it is a loss both for individual and society. Another point is that generally the students from poor families have to study to pay the tuition. While it is expected from our government to support these students, our government is expecting the tuition from them. Education is so important thing for one country’s development and our country’s education level is so lower than most countries. The reason of this situation is that university education is so expensive in our country. So, university education should be tuition free and our government should offer a qualified education which is in the same level and conditions.

To sum up, the tuition should not be in universities as it is a barrier for students to go the university, it does not provide the equality of opportunities to all citizens in education, and it lessens the time which students dedicate to the education and and themselves.

Internet is an incredible network which connects not only millions of computers but also thousands of social groups. We are a part of elements which ensures functioning of this network. Since the first day internet came to the Turkey, Turkey has changed and developed so much. So, internet users, we had to keep up with these alterations and developments. Nowadays, people meet with computer and internet from young ages and they use internet and computer for different aims such as joy, homework intensively. While using the internet, people can take advantage from it, at the same time; they can take disadvantage from it. Whether they take advantage or disadvantage from it is related to which aims they use the internet. Internet has a lot of effects on people’s life, but it has significant influences on especially people’s social life, psychology, and health.

Firstly, internet affects people’s social life on a large scale. People can use internet for different aims. It offers to people unlimited written and visual content. So, people prefer to read news and view different sources on internet instead of to read newspaper to be able to reach the most accurate information. Nowadays, it is so popular to use internet for shopping. The rising product variety of websites which is related to online-shopping makes it attractive to people. Also people can use it for communication. There are some social networks such as Twitter and Facebook used worldwide. The use of these social networks causes people both to socialize and not to socialize. People who use the social networks consciously take advantage of them. Unconscious users don’t take advantage of them. There are a lot of bad and good effects of internet on our life. One of the good effects is that with beginning to be used internet technology in utilities, e-government concept came out. With this e-government implementation, the efficiency of public sector increased on a large scale. One of the bad effects is that playing game so much is a big time loss; it steals our time.

Secondly, internet generally affects people’s psychology badly but it is generally not always. It can’t be thought that there is a branch which doesn’t reflect people’s psychology. The color of dress we wear, the smell of perfume we use, and our bed’s linen are options of our psychology. Briefly, our psychology is affected by everything easily and can affect our all decisions. With internet, people can reach information easily and fast, search what comes to their mind, make new friends, and express their thoughts freely, but sometimes people have to express them with short texts. These all form a different psychology on people. If people don’t have opportunities to do these, they may feel depressed and unhappy. As long as we use the internet according to its aim and we use it in dose, it gives us healthy results. Thanks to internet, we can tell the things we are shy and timid about. Internet may also turn into a psychological disorder because of the time are passed at the beginning of internet. For example, people spend so much time by playing games at the beginning of internet and computer and they can be addicted to game.

Thirdly, internet affects people’s health both directly and indirectly. Today, one hand, internet makes our life easier and we can do our works and task s while sitting at home through internet. On the other hand, most of us are sitting at the beginning of the computer and surfing on the internet. We don’t walk even in short distances and we are phoning or talking on the internet instead of walking. We are paying our bills on internet, doing our shopping on internet. These lead to inactivity. We aren’t aware of this inactivity but it is so serious problem which led to disorders such as headache, backache, eyestrain, and obesity. Movement is so important for our health and human body needs to move to be healthy. That people surf on internet during long hours and that the inactivity blocks functioning our metabolism regularly prevent from moving.  That our metabolism doesn’t work regularly damages our health.

To sum up, there are pros and cons of using internet. Sometimes we can take advantage and sometimes disadvantage from using internet. Which aims do we use the internet and how long do we use the internet? These are important things to take advantage from it. Internet offers us easy ways to do our works but how we will do this work is our decision. Internet affects our lifestyle, speech, relationship, culture, morality, and eating and sleeping habits but it has noticeable effects on people’s social life, psychology, and health. As a result, internet affects our life willingly or unwillingly so, we try to use good features of internet not bad features.

THE EFFECTS OF DIVORCE ON CHILDREN

Divorce is a difficult process for both children and father-mother. For children, divorcing father and mother stressful, complex, and upsetting situation. No matter how old children are, they may worry about how they continue their life after divorce. At the same time, children may get angry with their family because of divorce. For children, even if their families don’t fulfill their task, divorce means that collapsing a system which children are protected and looked after. The effects of divorce on children differ according to child and family structure. There are a lot of effects of divorce on children such as crying, nervousness, stress, being withdrawn, avoiding having sexual relation, anger, nightmares, restlessness, accusing you, sleeping and eating disorder, and problems with school. There are some terms which these effects are seen on children: babyhood, childhood, and adolescence.

The first term is babyhood. If child is in babyhood when his or her father and mother divorce, the child loses trust feeling which the most important feature is in this period. The basis trust feeling is one of the first things which the baby learns. It provides forming the trust feeling being provided baby’s physical requirements, being feed regularly. But in the divorce situation, the baby becomes anxious and worried about his or her future. Another situation is that the baby can perceive dispute and tension at home but they can’t understand that the cause of this dispute and tension is divorce. This dispute and tension create some problems on babies which are nervousness, sleeping and eating disorder, diarrhea, and constipation.

The second term is childhood. Personality features improves highly n this period. Divorcing father and mother affects child’s personality. Even if children don’t understand the reason of divorce, they are aware of not staying their father and mother at the same house. As a reaction of divorce, children adhere to person who they stay with, wait more interest, behave like a baby. Even if they don’t understand why their father and mother divorce, they are aware of their parent’s anger and unhappiness. As a result of divorce, children may have nightmares; children may have dense sorrow and loss feeling. Also they may think that ‘if they were well-behaved, their father and mother wouldn’t divorce.’ This thought leads to accuse themselves.

The last term is adolescence. Adolescence is both physical and mental maturity process for a child. Even if adolescents understand the situation, they don’t accept separation or divorce mostly. They are extremely angry with their parents and they may even attempt to use violence against their parents. They may lose their trust of relations including their future marriage. Their respect of themselves may reduce and they may think of not being loved. They feel that they are betrayed and refused, and they are disappointed. They may suffer from depression, they may be withdrawn, and they often use suicide as a threat. Some behavior disorder can be seen in adolescents such as stealing something, not going to school, using cigarette-alcohol, and having sexual relations. There are also some adolescents who show more suitable behaviors as they think that behavior differences save marriage.

To sum up, divorce creates different effects on children in different periods. Father and mother may divorce and it is an extremely normal situation nowadays. But parents should protect and support their children like before as far as they make. Parents should follow where their child is, with who their child is, and what their child does. Before parents’ divorce, they should talk their child about divorce and learn their child’s thought. In my opinion, if there is a child, parents should think about divorce twice and if they want to divorce insistently while there is a child, they should try to decrease these effects.

Generally, rich and famous people prefer to celebrate their weddings at the rural area. There is no boiler in country weddings and meals come from the kitchen readily. Bow-tied waiters serve and chairs are dressed with white linens and big ribbons. There are a few children running around bride and groom and tables. There is no song, orchestra only keep the rhythm. Everywhere is so green and there are clean air and wildflowers. Bride wears a crown made of wildflowers which is epitome of country wedding. This type of wedding has a fairytale image.

People rent wedding halls for one evening or afternoon several months in advance. Relatives of bride and groom, guests come to wedding hall before the time of wedding to welcome bride and groom with applause. Bride and groom come to scene and dance for a while. When the bride and groom sit, the guests play what they want to play. Jewelries of the sides of the girl and boy are worn to bride by announcements. There is an orchestra and refreshments are served by waiters. Especially cake and soft drinks are offered to guests and it is also common to offer nuts to guests. Finally, family photos are taken.

Every human needs to communicate with other people to sustain life and nowadays, communication is a requirement as important as eating and drinking for people. People use different ways to keep in touch each other. Two of them are letter and e-mail. They are similar to each other. However, there are a lot of differences between letter as a communication tool and e-mail as a communication way that we can compare.

Firstly, letter is one of the oldest communication tools. The most important feature of letter is being permanent and letters are important and valuable memories for people. On the other hand, letter is a slow communication tool; it takes one day or more than one day to reach the address we sent. So, it teaches people to wait and be patient. Texts are generally long in letters and there are a lot of things to write. So, papers may be more than one or two. It is also important that we feel letter paper with three senses which are sense of sight, sense of touch, and even sense of smell. While letter can be read repeatedly in longing and separation times, it also can be burned in aversion times. There are harmony and order in letters and it requires basic grammar rules. Even if people don’t know grammar rules, people try to take care of spelling rules. Long processes such as weeks, months, and even years are written thoroughly in letters. There is also a postman in letters and preparing letters and giving them to post-office take so much time. This time provides us to make more logical decisions. Letters are traditional and we have even a song related to letter which is ‘bak postacı geliyor selam veriyor’. There are effort and toil in letters they are necessary things; paper, pencil, stamp, envelope, time, and money to be able to write and send a letter. As a result, writing letter isn’t an easy job and people generally write letters people to they love and value.

Secondly, nowadays, e-mail is so popular communication way. E-mail is so fast that it takes only a few seconds to reach person we sent. People generally mention only one subject in e-mails. Most of e-mails which are sent us are generally related to advertisements. Sometimes, while we are deleting these advertisements, some important e-mails which our relatives and friends send us may be overlooked and deleted without being read. It isn’t necessary harmony and order for e-mails, it is written like chatting. Even though the process or time which people talk about is long, people don’t find something to write. So, this question comes out ‘how are things with you?’ People don’t take care of grammar rules and spelling rules in e-mails. Another point is that it may be written in an angry and nervous mood as it is so fast and easy. There isn’t something concrete in e-mails so, they aren’t permanent. Computer and internet are only necessary to send an e-mail. As a result, sending e-mail is an easy job and e-mail doesn’t require so much rules.

To sum up, as the differences we see in letters and e-mails, e-mails are faster to send and easier to write than letters. So, people use e-mails more than letters. We can say that today letter isn’t almost used and most people don’t know even how to be written letter. But it is something traditional, beautiful, and it is a memory for us. To provide people to use letters more common, we should teach children how to write letters correctly and inform about its merit in schools. People send letters to people who they attach importance because it is believed that letter is more important than the expensive gift you will buy and the romantic dinner you will bring.

Letter and E-mail

Every human needs to communicate other people to sustain life and nowadays, communication is as important requirement as eating and drinking for people. People use different ways to keep in touch each other. Two of them are letter and e-mail. They are similar to each other. However, there are a lot of differences between letter as a communication tool and e-mail as a communication way that we can compare.

Firstly, letter is one of the oldest communication tools. The most important feature of letter is being permanent and letters are important and valuable memories for people. On the other hand, letter is a slow communication tool, it takes one day or more than one day to arrive the address we sent. So, it teaches people to wait and be patient. Texts are generally long in letters and there are a lot of things to write. So, papers may be more than one or two. It is also important that we feel letter paper with three senses which are sense of sight, sense of touch, and even sense of smell. While letter can be read repeatedly in longing and separation times, it also can be burned in aversion times. There are harmony and order in letters and it requires basic grammar rules. Even if people don’t know grammar rules, people try to take care of spelling rules. Long processes such as weeks, months, and even years are written thoroughly in letters. There is also a postman in letters and preparing letters and giving them post-office take to time. This time provide us to make more logical decisions. Letters are traditional and we have even a song related to letter which is ‘bak postacı geliyor selam veriyor’. There are effort and toil in letters they are necessary paper, pencil, stamp, envelope, time, and money to be able to write and send a letter. As a result, writing letter isn’t an easy job and people generally write letters people they love and value.

Secondly, nowadays, e-mail is so popular communication way. E-mail is so fast that it takes only a few seconds to reach person we sent. People generally mention only one subject in e-mails. Most of e-mails which are sent us are generally related to advertisements. Sometimes, while we are deleting these advertisements, some important e-mails which our relatives and friends send us may be overlooked and deleted without being read. It isn’t necessary harmony and order for e-mails, it is written like chatting. Even though the process or time which people talk about is long, people don’t find something to write. So, this question comes out ‘how are things with you?’ People don’t take care of grammar rules and spelling rules in e-mails. Another point is that it may be written in an angry and nervous mood as it is so fast and easy. There isn’t something concrete in e-mails so, they aren’t permanent. Computer and internet are only necessary to send an e-mail. As a result, sending e-mail is an easy job and e-mail doesn’t require so much rules.

To sum up, as the differences we see in letters and e-mails, e-mails are faster to send and easier to write than letters. So, people use e-mails more than letters. We can say that today letter isn’t almost used and most people don’t know even how to be written letter. But it is something traditional, beautiful, and it is a memory for us. To provide people to use letters more common, we should teach children how to write letters correctly and inform about its merit in schools. People send letters to people who they attach importance because it is believed that letter is more important than the expensive gift you will buy and the romantic dinner you will bring.

THE LIVES OF MEN AND WOMEN IN MY COUNTRY

While  human  is  extremely  important  creature  in  our  world , why  does  the importance   which  is  attached  to  human  change  from  culture  to  culture  according  to  human’s  gender?There  are  a lot  of  differences  between  the  lives  of  men and  women  in  my  country :  the  role  of  women  and  men  in  family ,  women’s  and  men’s  role  in  business , and  men’s  and  women’s  literacy  rate.

The first  difference  is  men  and  women’s  roles  in  a  family.There  is  so  big  difference  between  their  roles.Men generally  decide about  children’s  life and think about their future more than women.The  arbiter  in  family  is  generally  father.Women  listen  their husband  and  respect  their opinions.In  my  country  while  women  have  more  rights  than  men  over  children , men  have  more  authority  over  children.Likewise  boys  have  more  authority  than  girls  in  family  when  we  take  into  consideration their  boys and  girls  or  sisters  and  brothers.So , men  have  more  rights  in  family.

The second  difference  is  business life.Generally  men  work  and men  don’t  allow   their  wives  to  work.Likewise  fathers  don’t  allow  their  girls  to  work  as  they  observe  their  family  in   this  wise.According  to  men’s  understanding  in  my  country , women  look  after  their  children , clean  house , and  cook dinner  and women do them.Generally they don’t work outside.This   understanding  is also  valid  for  young  girls.While  boys  are  working  even  at  young  age , girls’  working  in  a  factory  or  somewhere  else  isn’t  tolerated  and  allowed.As  a  result , men  have  extremely  active  business  life , women  are  generally  expected  to  be  housewife.

The  last  difference  is  men  and  women’s  literacy.Generally  men’s  literacy rate is higher than women as girls  are doing housework while boys are sent to school.Only  some  families  send  their  girls  to  school, so  only some women are literate.Boys and men  do  what  they  want  to  do.They  are  quite  free  to  make  their  decisions.They  may  go  to  the  school ,  work  in a  factory  or  somewhere  else  while  women  are dealing  with  sewing  and  embroidery  instead  of  going  to  school.Girls help their mothers and then they  are  married  by  their  parents.So , most  of  our women  don’t  know  reading  and  writing.

To  sum up , as  people  give  more  importance  boys  than  girls , boys and  men  are  more  lucky  and  valuable  in  my  country  because  of  their  liberty  of  all  decisions  while  women  aren’t  still  completely  independent  about  their  life.
